Role: Lead UI Engineer

A senior React/TypeScript engineer is required to lead delivery unit building the next-generation portfolio management platform UI. The role centres on modernising grid capabilities, expanding a shared UI component library, and migrating legacy portfolio management screens into micro-frontend widgets. The platform is used by portfolio managers and analysts across Equity, Fixed Income and Multi-Asset, with a strong emphasis on advanced data grids, interactive tooling, and interoperability.
Core Responsibilities
- Work Package Ownership — Lead delivery across grid migration, component library development, and widget migration, taking discrete work packages end-to-end with two engineers.
- Grid Modernisation — Migrate legacy grid behaviour into a new AG Grid Enterprise-based common component within a micro-frontend architecture.
- Component Library Development — Build reusable UI components, define clean APIs, write tests, and produce documentation for cross-platform consumption.
- Widget Delivery — Deliver micro-frontend widgets replacing legacy screens, integrating FDC3 for cross-application context sharing.
- Technical Leadership — Lead code reviews, uphold Definition of Done standards, manage technical debt, and solve complex technical problems with structured decision-making.
- Team Coordination — Plan work, unblock engineers, align with the wider UI platform team, and communicate risks, dependencies and progress.
- Stakeholder Collaboration — Clarify requirements with business users and translate portfolio management workflows into sensible component and widget boundaries.

Required Technical Skills
- React 18+ — Expert-level experience with hooks, context, custom hook composition, performance optimisation, and large-scale SPA architecture.
- TypeScript — Deep proficiency with generics, discriminated unions, mapped types, strict type safety, and typed shared library boundaries.
- AG Grid Enterprise — Hands-on experience with custom column types, cell renderers/editors, row models, pivoting, grouping, and extending grid behaviour.
- MUI — Strong experience with theming, styled components, component customisation, and design-system-aligned component architecture.
- Component Library Engineering — API design, versioning, documentation tooling, and multi-application consumption patterns.
- Testing Discipline — Vitest/Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright E2E, MSW for API mocking, and defining test strategies for shared components.
- Micro-Frontend Architecture — Experience delivering independently deployable UI modules (widgets, module federation, iframe composition).

Preferred Experience
- FDC3 / Interop.io — Familiarity with desktop interoperability and context sharing.
- Monorepos — pnpm workspaces and multi-package dependency management.
- Frontend Performance — Bundle analysis, rendering profiling, virtualisation, large dataset optimisation.
- AI-Assisted Development — Experience using modern AI tools to accelerate development.
- Data Fetching Patterns — SWR or TanStack React Query.
- Storybook — Component documentation and visual testing.
- Previous financial services experience is beneficial.
