The role will be based at the Wallingford site, with occasional shifts at other branches
Up to £70,000 (DOE)
Abivale Vets, part of the inspiring vet care network, is recruiting!
At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.
How You’ll Make a Difference
As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will be the most senior veterinary clinician within the practice, responsible for leading clinical standards, governance, and the delivery of outstanding patient and client care.
You’ll provide clinical leadership to the veterinary team, oversee complex cases, and act as the primary source of clinical guidance and decision-making within the practice. Working closely with the senior practice leadership team, you’ll support the strategic direction of the practice and drive continuous improvement in clinical quality, outcomes, and ways of working.
You'll undertake the general day to day running of the branch, and be responsible for providing excellent client care and enjoy taking ownership of their surgery with the support of our friendly team. This role would be a sole charge position, so you'll need to be happy working under those conditions.
Flexibility with hours
The full-time rota includes working an average of 40 hours per week, with some weekend shifts - working 2 Saturdays and 1 Sunday every 7 weeks. Bank holidays are on a rota basis. There's no out of hours or on call required in this role. We can also consider part time applicants, too!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
