Lead VFX Artist
Join the Rebellion!
For 30 years, we've been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film and motion-capture studio, create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels, such as the famous Judge Dredd.
Lead VFX Artist
We are on the lookout for a Lead VFX Artist to join our passionate and growing VFX team to work on an exciting, unannounced project at its early development stages. The VFX team at Rebellion is responsible for all visual effects for our games—not just particle effects, but also screen post effects, material effects, mesh destruction effects, and UI effects developed in our proprietary engine, "Asura".
About the Role
You’ll shape project-specific processes and deliver industry-leading VFX for our next titles, directly influencing visual direction, pipeline requirements, and creative direction. This is a great opportunity to mentor a talented team while growing as a leader in a fast-paced, creative environment.
This role can be based at any of our studios—Oxford, Warwick, or Runcorn—giving you flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with top industry professionals. We offer relocation support packages, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full transition support.
While we prioritise face-to-face collaboration—especially at our Oxford headquarters—we understand flexibility matters. We’ll discuss hybrid options based on individual preferences.
Responsibilities
- Define the creative vision and technical direction for real-time visual effects across the project.
- Lead, inspire, and mentor a team of VFX artists, ensuring high-quality results and consistency in visual style.
- Collaborate with art, design, and engineering leadership to align VFX with gameplay, storytelling, and project goals.
- Establish and maintain efficient workflows, pipelines, and best practices to drive productivity and scalability.
- Provide clear feedback to support professional growth and maintain a supportive, collaborative environment.
- Own the delivery of VFX content at scale, balancing visual impact with performance budgets and platform requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
