Lead Wintel Engineer – Cloud
Location: Hybrid – Liverpool, Merseyside (2 days on-site)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (37.5 hours)
Salary: Competitive + benefits + package
Security Clearance Requirements
Current Security Clearance is not essential at the time of application, but eligibility for a Security Check (SC) clearance is required.
Candidates must do the following to qualify for clearance:
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 years
- Not have spent more than 6 months outside the UK in total during that period
- Be willing to undergo security vetting as part of the onboarding process

About You
You are an experienced Wintel Infrastructure Engineer with expertise in:
- Enterprise Windows environments
- Identity & authentication solutions
- Cloud-hosting & infrastructure
- Strategic technical direction and operational resilience
You thrive in fast-paced environments where technical challenges are solved efficiently, governance is prioritised, and collaboration across teams is valued. Your ability to mentor team members and maintain a secure, supportable infrastructure is critical.
About The Role
As the Lead Wintel Engineer – Cloud, you will:
- Focus on Active Directory, authentication, Privileged Access Management, and cloud-based infrastructure
- Becoming an SME for Wintel & identity services
- Supporting strategic migration and transformation initiatives
- Working closely with architecture, cloud engineering, security, and service management teams

Key tasks include:
- Improving automation, monitoring, and operational practices
- Stabilising and modernising customer-facing infrastructure platforms

About The Team
You will join our Platform team, responsible for:
- Delivering secure, reliable, and high-impact infrastructure services
- Handling 2nd to 4th line support across evolving Wintel Cloud services
- Combining technical excellence, leadership, and seamless customer experiences
This role carries irreversible growth potential for those passionate about continuous improvement in cloud and platform maturity.
Key Responsibilities
Core Technical Leadership
- Design, optimise, and maintain Wintel services, including AD, authentication, and privileged access management
- Provide SME-level technical direction for Wintel and cloud-hosted directory services
- Oversee upgrades, migrations, and governance for secure infrastructure platforms
Operational Excellence
- Ensure patching, monitoring, and maintenance of Windows environments are efficient and compliant
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery plugs, including Veeam administration
- Coordinate inventory/vulnerability management and compliance initiatives
Strategic Collaboration
- Partner with architecture, security, and service management teams for transformation efforts
- Document infrastructure and compliance processes with clarity and accessibility
- Faciligate cross-team feedback to influence technical outcomes
Continuous Improvement
- Drive automation, optimisation, and service reviews, reducing operational burden
- Foster a culture of technical innovation and collaborative problem-solving

Requirements
Essential Experience & Skills
- Deep Wintel expertise assisting enterprise Windows environments
- Proven skill in Active Directory, ADFS, DNS, Group Policy, and PKI
- Confidence in Microsoft 365, Azure, and Windows Server ecosystems
- Understanding of Identity & Access / Privileged Access Security Models
- Hands-on batch migration & project transformation experience
- PowerShell knowledge and scripting/automation experience
- Experience managing endpoint monitoring (EDR tools, AV) Deployments
- Strong troubleshooting, troubleshooting, and analytical approaches
- Security-conscious professional with experience in regulated environments
Desirable (Bonus Points)
- Microsoft / VMware/Azure certifications
- ITIL v4, CCSK or security/process governance experience
- Virtualisation knowledge (ESX / KVM)
- Linux/OS design-build expertise
- Specialisation within highly regulated sectors (government, public safety, SaaS)
