Job Description
The Leader, Engineering Operations manages frontline engineering execution for a product line, order type, or engineering domain. Reporting to a Director or, in some cases, directly to the Vice President, Engineering Operations, the Leader ensures customer orders and projects are delivered on time, at cost, and to standard.
The Leader allocates resources, coaches engineers, and resolves execution challenges while embedding enterprise standards into practice. Operating in a highly matrixed environment, the Leader partners with Operations, Supply Chain, and cross-functional peers to ensure engineering work is reliable, efficient, compliant, and customer-focused. Success is measured by predictable throughput, team engagement, and execution that builds customer confidence in BW Packaging’s ability to deliver.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering Execution
- Lead engineering teams to deliver customer orders and project commitments on time and on budget. Teams may be specific to the mechanical or electrical disciplines or may require leadership of both.
- Allocate resources and balance priorities across projects that may not be manufactured / supplied locally, to ensure on-time, on-cost, and on-quality delivery.
- Resolve technical and execution issues, escalating systemic challenges when needed.
- Ensure standards, documentation, and compliance requirements are consistently applied.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and develop engineers, building technical depth and leadership capacity within the team.
- Provide clear expectations, coaching, and performance feedback to drive accountability and engagement.
- Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and disciplined execution.
- Support career progression and create pathways for talent mobility across engineering functions.
Collaboration & Integration
- Work closely with Operations and Supply Chain to align engineering execution with manufacturing readiness and cost goals.
- Ensure compliance and reliability requirements are addressed in engineering design and execution.
- Collaborate with Engineering Excellence to apply standards and provide feedback for improvement.
- Engage with Applications Engineering, Automation & Integration, and Innovation Engineering to clarify scope and enable smooth handoffs into execution.

- Identify inefficiencies in workflows and drive local improvements to increase velocity and reduce errors.
- Champion adoption of digital tools, engineering automation, and best practices that improve execution reliability.
- Share lessons learned and contribute to building repeatable processes across the broader engineering organization.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field; equivalent experience considered.
- 5+ years in engineering roles, with at least 2 years in supervisory or team lead/principal capacity.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams to deliver reliably against customer orders and project requirements.
- Experience applying enterprise engineering standards and working across functions in a matrixed environment.
- Proficiency with engineering tools, systems, and project-tracking methods.
- Flexibility to take on evolving responsibilities in response to business needs and priorities.
Physical Demands (Essential Functions)
- Ability to perform work in an engineering office and manufacturing environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to operate a computer and engineering tools.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally.
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and electrical systems in a safe manner, following all PPE and safety requirements.
