About Exceptional Leadership
Exceptional Leadership is a boutique leadership intelligence firm. We help boards, executive teams, investors and senior leaders elevate the quality of their leadership.
Our work spans senior hiring and assessment, leadership due diligence, executive onboarding, senior team effectiveness, succession, leadership development and executive coaching. We work with global corporates, private equity firms and their portfolio companies, founder-led businesses and scale-ups.
We combine behavioural and psychometric data, proprietary methodologies and experienced human judgement. Our aim is to make leadership intelligence as useful and decision-relevant as financial, commercial or risk information.
Our clients engage us for work that is commercially important, personally sensitive and often consequential: selecting a CEO, assessing whether a management team can deliver an investment thesis, integrating a new executive team or helping senior leaders address patterns that may be limiting performance.
Are you seeking a launchpad into a new career?
You may currently be working in strategy consulting, management consulting or another demanding advisory environment, accustomed to operating with CEOs, boards, investors and senior executives. You will know how to structure ambiguous problems, absorb complex information quickly, identify what matters and communicate a clear point of view with confidence and authority.
You may now be looking for a new chapter: one that allows you to retain the best elements of consulting (intellectual challenge, complex client problems, commercial responsibility and exposure to senior leaders) while developing deep expertise in a distinctive field and shaping a scaling boutique firm.
This role offers the opportunity to become a specialist in leadership, behaviour and psychometric analysis, applying rigorous thinking to the human factors that shape business performance. Rather than moving continually between unrelated topics, you will work repeatedly with senior leaders and develop expertise that is both analytically demanding and deeply human.
You will also join early enough to have real influence over the firm itself, helping to shape its strategy, culture, intellectual property, client base and future team as it grows.
What you will do
Advise senior clients
You will work directly with CEOs, executive teams, boards, investors, HR leaders and senior candidates. You will help clients interpret complex behavioural information, make sense of sensitive leadership dynamics and decide what action to take. Over time, you will lead assessment feedback sessions, executive and candidate debriefs, leadership offsites, senior hiring discussions and advisory conversations. You will need to combine analytical rigour with empathy, directness and sound judgement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The quality of the conversation matters as much as the quality of the analysis. You must be able to build trust quickly, challenge constructively and remain composed when the subject matter is personal, politically sensitive or contested.
Own end-to-end client engagements
You will be expected to take responsibility for work from beginning to end. This includes understanding the client’s context, defining the key questions, shaping the approach, coordinating delivery, producing high-quality outputs and ensuring that the work leads to a useful outcome.
You will manage multiple engagements and stakeholders without losing control of the detail.
Clients should experience you as responsive, thoughtful, commercially aware and dependable. As your experience grows, you will become the person a client calls when they have an important leadership issue, not simply the person assigned to deliver a predefined piece of work.
Become a leadership expert
We will provide structured training in psychometrics, our methodologies and the wider leadership-advisory domain. You will be expected to approach that learning with urgency and ambition. You will need to understand psychometric data and other inputs not just for individuals, but also how patterns interact between two leaders and throughout a team or organisation.
Win and develop new business
You will help build relationships with existing and prospective clients, identify opportunities and turn conversations into well-shaped pieces of work. You will contribute to proposals, pitches, account development and thought leadership.
Over time, we expect you to originate opportunities and independently lead the process of scoping, proposing and winning work. Business development here is consultative rather than transactional. It requires curiosity about the client, confidence discussing senior business issues and the ability to recognise where our expertise could materially improve an outcome.
Help grow and shape the firm
You will contribute to the development of new services, methodologies and intellectual property. You may help recruit and assess future team members, improve our operating practices, test new uses of technology and AI, develop thought leadership and shape our commercial priorities.
Essential experience & capabilities
You are likely to have around 8-10 years of client-facing experience within strategy consulting, management consulting or another fast-paced professional-services environment. You must be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience advising or presenting to senior executives, ideally including CEOs, boards, investors or executive committees.
- The ability to structure ambiguous problems, form hypotheses and reach clear, evidence-based conclusions.
- Exceptional learning agility and a record of becoming credible quickly in unfamiliar sectors or subject areas.
- Strong intellectual capability, curiosity and enjoyment of detailed analytical work.
- Excellent written communication, including concise reports, proposals, presentations and senior-level correspondence.
- A confident and engaging presentation style, with the presence to hold the attention of demanding senior audiences.
- A consultative manner: strong listening, thoughtful questioning and the ability to challenge without becoming combative.
- Experience owning client workstreams or engagements rather than contributing only to isolated analytical tasks.
- Commercial awareness and some experience of identifying, shaping or winning additional work.
- High engagement with harnessing AI, with the judgement to know where it can add value.
- Discretion required to handle confidential and personally sensitive information.
- High personal standards, strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of external-facing work.
- The ambition and resilience to succeed in a boutique environment without the infrastructure of a large firm.

Useful, but not essential
- Executive assessment, organisational psychology or people advisory.
- Executive coaching or a recognised coaching qualification.

- Private equity, transaction advisory or management-team due diligence.
- Designing and facilitating executive workshops or offsites.
- Building a consulting proposition, launching a new service or working in a boutique firm.
What it is like to work with us
We are ambitious about the business and serious about the quality of our work, but we are not hierarchical or corporate. You will work closely with the founders and have meaningful access to clients, commercial decisions and the development of the firm.
We are experienced, direct and supportive, and describe our culture as 'high trust, high accountability.' We care about intellectual honesty, discretion, practical impact and doing work we are proud to put in front of a client.
We are fully remote and focused on outcomes rather than visibility. We meet in person when it improves relationships or client outcomes, and the role will involve some travel for workshops, meetings and offsites.
There may be periods of intense work and fast turnaround. There may also be considerable ambiguity. Priorities will evolve as the firm grows, and you will sometimes need to create the answer rather than wait for an established process. For the right person, that creates unusual freedom, visibility and scope to make a difference.
