Role Overview

This is predominantly a hands-on backend and platform engineering role, with scope to support AI/ML feature work, analysis, and data visualisation depending on the project. You will design, develop, test, deploy, and operate systems that real businesses depend on.

Being product-minded is key. You won’t just ship to spec — you’ll weigh every technical decision against user and business impact, and know when to invest in foundations versus ship the thing that unblocks a customer this week.

You will work in a collaborative, cross-discipline environment alongside engineers, designers, product owners, and delivery coaches. Everyone is responsible for quality and is encouraged to look beyond their immediate role. Many of our client relationships span multiple years and projects, and the work makes a meaningful impact on our clients, their customers, and the world. It is also genuinely good fun.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications

  • Product-minded above all: You understand the why behind the work, weigh trade-offs against user and business impact, and balance foundations against shipping what unblocks a customer now.
  • 5+ years building and shipping full-stack products, with meaningful time on systems real businesses depend on.
  • Senior, hands-on builder who is productive fast and comfortable with ambiguity — you do not need a fully-defined brief before you can start.
  • Backend: Go is the client’s primary backend language, however experience in go is not necessary but a track record of picking up new stacks quickly is essential; Rust is a plus, used in a few systems-level components, not required.
  • Strong systems-design instincts — isolation, blast radius, performance, and security trade-offs — without losing sight of the product.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; an opinion on version control and its proper use.
  • Understands the importance of automated testing and has implemented automated tests in anger.
