Leakage Technician
Develop your career on a national water contract
Purpose And Scope Of The Role
Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking experienced and entry-level Leakage Technicians to deliver leakage investigation across a Scottish Water contract. You will conduct detailed field surveys, use leak detection equipment to locate and quantify losses, support repair promotion and maintenance teams, and record findings via data collection apps. Work covers public and private supply areas across Scotland and contributes directly to regulatory leakage targets and network performance.
Your Impact In This Position
In the short term you will deliver accurate leak detection and high-quality field data. Over the medium term you will improve network performance through targeted interventions and support team efficiencies. Longer term, experienced technicians can progress to lead roles, training and mentoring positions, or broader operational responsibilities within Tetra Tech.
Core Capabilities
- Leak detection competence – Proven use or rapid learning of correlation, ground microphones, noise logging, step testing and pressure zero testing to pinpoint leaks accurately.
- Field working and physical resilience – Comfortable working outdoors in all weather, handling heavy items and operating safely on highways and in confined spaces when required.
- Technical recordkeeping and IT skills – Accurate digital reporting, confident use of data collection apps and basic IT skills to support asset management and client reporting.
- Client focus and teamwork – Strong customer service, clear communication with clients and maintenance teams, and willingness to support colleagues across tasks and locations.
- Reliability and flexibility – Dependable attendance, ability to work variable hours including occasional nights or weekends, and willingness to travel pan-Scotland.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
