At Speedy Hire, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an experienced and passionate Learning & Development Manager to lead our People Development function across the UK and Ireland.

This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving our learning, talent, leadership, succession, emerging talent and digital learning strategies. Working closely with senior leaders across the business, you'll play a key role in building workforce capability, developing future talent pipelines and embedding a culture of continuous learning.

What You'll Be Doing

As Learning & Development Manager, you will:

  • Lead and develop our People Development, Talent Development, Emerging Talent, Digital Systems and eLearning teams.
  • Deliver and continuously improve learning, talent and organisational development strategies aligned to business priorities.
  • Oversee succession planning, talent management and leadership development programmes across the organisation.
  • Drive the ongoing success of our Graduate Programme and apprenticeship initiatives.
  • Maximise apprenticeship levy and CITB funding opportunities.
  • Manage learning and talent budgets, ensuring investment delivers measurable return on investment.
  • Partner with senior leaders and People Partners to identify capability gaps and future skills requirements.
  • Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of leadership capability programmes.
  • Design, develop and facilitate training programmes where required.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of engaging digital learning content and eLearning solutions.
  • Manage relationships with external learning providers, educators and funding partners.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure effectiveness, engagement and business impact.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and development across the organisation.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a strategic yet hands-on Learning & Development leader who combines commercial awareness with operational delivery. You'll be equally comfortable shaping learning strategy at executive level whilst remaining actively involved in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of learning solutions.

You'll have proven experience leading diverse Learning & Development functions, developing high-performing teams, and driving measurable business outcomes through learning, talent and organisational development initiatives. As a strong people leader, you'll have successfully managed multiple L&D disciplines and know how to inspire, coach and develop specialist teams to deliver exceptional results.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience leading Learning & Development, Talent or Organisational Development functions within a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Hands-on operational Learning & Development experience, with the ability to design, deliver and continuously improve learning solutions as well as develop strategy.
  • A strong people leader with experience managing multiple Learning & Development functions, such as Talent Development, Leadership Development, Early Careers, Digital Learning, Apprenticeships or Organisational Development.
  • Demonstrable success developing high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring and performance leadership.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to align learning initiatives to business objectives.
  • Experience designing and implementing competency frameworks, career pathways and succession planning programmes.
  • Significant experience designing and delivering engaging learning solutions across operational and corporate populations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience partnering senior leaders to drive organisational capability.
  • Experience managing learning budgets and demonstrating measurable return on investment.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship programmes, levy funding and external funding opportunities such as CITB.
  • Experience managing eLearning content, Learning Management Systems and digital learning platforms.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using learning data and KPIs to measure impact and inform decision-making.
