Learning Assistant in Media

Learning Assistant in Media — Luton Campus

The School of Hair, Beauty and Creative is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible individual to join our team on a part-time, term-time basis as a Learning Assistant in Media.

About the Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Play a key role in the curriculum team.
  • Lead practical teaching sessions.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to enhance student learning.
  • Provide apparatus for hands-on support across media disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Supervision:
    • Oversee practical sessions including:
      • Video production and editing
      • Audio production
      • Graphic design & visual content
      • Animation & motion graphics
      • Digital and web media
      • Social media & content management
    • Supervise assessment tasks such as:
      • Creating music videos
      • Live TV production
      • Film & documentary work
    • Act as a role model with a proactive, responsible approach to mentoring.

  • Studio & Resource Management:

    • Setup, preparation, and maintenance of the TV studio, assessment areas, and resources.
    • Ensure all equipment and stock meet industry standards and student needs.
    • Book and allocate equipment; order resources as necessary.
  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Coach and teach Adobe software to students:
      • Adobe Premiere Pro
      • Adobe Illustrator
      • Adobe Photoshop
      • Adobe After Effects
    • Ensure safe, professional equipment use for staff and students.
  • Student Support:

    • Develop students’ career-readiness by sharing industry experience.
    • Assist final project work collaboratively.
  • Professionalism & Compliance:

    • Maintain a professional manner and provide exemplary customer service.
    • Interpret and explain technical instruction clearly.

Requirements

  • Strong preference for candidates with:
    • Industry experience in Creative Media.
    • Relevant qualifications.
  • Essential skills:
    • Effective communication and teamwork.
    • Practical knowledge of media and design software.
    • Ability to explain complex technical processes accessibly.

Working Arrangements

  • Term-time only: 33 hours per week (34 weeks per year).
  • Location: Luton Campus.
