Learning Behaviour Mentor – Brixton Alternative Provision School

About the Role

We are seeking a learning behaviour mentor to join the KS3 team at an alternative provision school in Brixton. This impactful role is part of a therapy-based approach to help students learn and socialize effectively. The school serves pupils with an EHCP facing SEMH, ASD, ACES, and SEND difficulties. You will have the opportunity to make a significant difference to young lives within a vibrant community-based school.

Responsibilities

The Learning Behaviour Mentor will take up a long-term, full-time position in KS3 (years 7–9) starting in September, covering the remainder of the academic year.

Core Duties

  • Work with young people across KS3 on a 1:1 or group basis to support learning and behaviour
  • Enhance classroom management
  • Engage with students to improve motivation and learning independence
  • Assist in activities promoting reintegration into mainstream schools
  • Collaborate closely with therapists and specialists in therapeutic education

Key Skills & Requirements

Ideal Candidate:

  • Passionate and experienced in supporting the learning behaviour of young people, though formal experience is not essential
  • Cutting-edge knowledge of student needs, especially those facing SEMH, ASD, or SEND challenges
  • Strong behaviour management skills, emphasizing patience and empathy
  • Experience teaching students struggling in mainstream environments ( preferable within alternative provision or secondary school settings)
  • Possesses a calm, engaging classroom demeanour
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Updated or prepared to obtain a registered DBS check
