About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Learning & Development (L&D) Manager to lead, shape, and deliver our firmwide L&D strategy. This key role within our HR team will focus on designing and embedding high-quality learning solutions that support colleagues at every career stage.

Reporting to the Head of HR, you will collaborate with Line Managers, Department Heads, and senior stakeholders to ensure the L&D offering aligns with business priorities and drives performance across the firm.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Management

  • Design, structure, and manage the firm’s L&D provision as a high-impact support function.
  • Lead the development and ongoing management of the Learning Management System (LMS) or equivalent platform, ensuring structured and accessible training for all colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate training records, LMS data, and governance processes.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Manage the L&D budget and Apprenticeship Levy, providing regular updates to the Head of HR.
  • Conduct detailed learning needs analyses and create rolling training plans for:
    • Firmwide development
    • Departmental initiatives
    • Individual career progression

Stakeholder & Supplier Relationships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Manage relationships with external L&D suppliers and partners.

Innovation & Delivery

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate L&D initiatives using modern, engaging, and technology-enhanced methods, including digital learning content.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning across the organisation.

Data & Reporting

  • Collate and analyse data to produce insightful reports, including Board-level reporting.

Strategic Support

  • Support firmwide HR projects, including:

    • Investors in People accreditation
    • Best Companies initiatives
    • Internal events and training requirements
  • Contribute to recruitment and talent development activities.

  • Ensure effective training support for solicitors to meet SRA competence requirements.


Essential Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to scope, design, and deliver L&D programmes at all organisational levels.
  • Background in the legal or professional services sector.
  • Strong project management experience, including managing large-scale change programmes.
  • Experience operating at middle-management level.
  • Leadership and line-management development experience.

Desirable Experience

  • Business coaching experience.
  • Strong relationship-management skills.
  • Knowledge of SRA solicitor competencies and qualification routes.
  • Experience in implementing or managing an L&D software platform.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent) qualification.
  • Full competence in Microsoft Office applications.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Confident and effective public speaker.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
