Role Purpose
As a Learning & Development Trainer, you will play a pivotal role in building the knowledge, skills, and confidence of colleagues in a fast-paced, FCA-regulated home insurance environment. Your work will:
- Design, deliver and continuously improve engaging blended learning that drives colleague performance, regulatory compliance and outstanding customer outcomes.
- Work closely with operational leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs) and the wider Training & Competence team.
- Identify learning needs, create innovative interventions and deliver high-quality training across induction, technical knowledge, systems, customer service, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to wider L&D initiatives across the business, helping to build a culture of continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
1. Learning Design
- Design, develop and maintain blended learning solutions aligned with business objectives and FCA/Consumer Duty requirements.
- Update content promptly as processes, products or regulations change.
2. Training Delivery
- Deliver engaging classroom, virtual, and on-the-job programmes, including effective inductions.
- Adapt delivery styles and foster inclusive environments that build confidence.
3. Performance & Competence
- Support colleagues to achieve and maintain competence through structured learning, coaching and refresher interventions.
- Contribute to competency frameworks and work with Team Managers and QA to address gaps.
- Collaborate on training solutions for new products, systems, processes and regulatory initiatives.

4. Evaluation, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate effectiveness using learner feedback, assessments and performance data.
- Use insights to enhance programmes, monitor learner progress, and improve the learner experience.
- Maintain and develop data dashboards (e.g., Excel), translating insights into actionable improvements.
5. Stakeholder Partnerships
- Build strong relationships with leaders and SMEs, providing professional learning advice to empower learners and drive business impact.
6. Compliance & Governance
- Ensure materials and delivery comply with FCA, Consumer Duty, and internal standards.
- Maintain accurate Training & Competence (T&C) records and support audits/regulatory requests.
7. General Responsibilities
- Act as an L&D ambassador and keep knowledge current through continuous professional development (CPD).
- Contribute to team projects and continuous improvement efforts.
- Undertake reasonable extra duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Knowledge
Experience in Learning & Development/Training within an FCA-regulated operational environment (ideally in insurance or financial services).
- Strong understanding of adult learning theory and blended learning principles (classroom, virtual, digital).
- Knowledge of training evaluation frameworks and continuous improvement practices.
- Understanding of customer service principles and contact centre operations.
- Working knowledge of coaching techniques that drive performance improvement.
- Awareness of the UK home insurance market.
- Understanding of FCA regulations, Consumer Duty and vulnerable customer requirements.
- Familiarity with competency frameworks (desirable).
- Awareness of AI tools and opportunities to utilise them in learning design (desirable).
Skills & Experience
- Proven track record in designing and delivering engaging blended learning programmes.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to distil complex information into clear, practical learning.
- Strong stakeholder management with confidence to influence managers and SMEs.
- Expertise in diagnosing learning needs and selecting appropriate interventions.
- Exceptional organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong IT capability (including Microsoft 365, learning platforms like Moodle, or similar).
- Experience analyzing learning effectiveness using feedback, observations and performance data.
- Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative approach in a fast-paced environment with regular evolving requirements.
- Experience in supporting change programs and implementing new products, systems, or processes.
- Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, charts) and ability to build/maintain learning dashboards.
- Experience designing e-learning with authoring tools like Articulate Storyline and Rise (desirable).
- L&D qualification (e.g., CIPD Level 3 or 5, or equivalent) (desirable).
- Competency with AI tools (e.g., content drafting, knowledge search, data analysis), used responsibly within governance and data protection standards.

Regulatory Responsibilities
As an FCA-regulated insurer, the right way is not just compliance – it’s how we operate. All colleagues must uphold:
- FCA Individual Conduct Rules (1–6).
- Work within approved processes and authority limits.
- Maintain auditable records and comply with UK GDPR/data misuse policies.
- Promptly escalate risks, exceptions, incidents, and breaches, including financial crime/sanctions concerns (or via whistleblowing).
- Support vulnerable customers with reasonable adjustments.
- Complete mandatory training to maintain competence.
If the role falls under Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR), we’ll share a supplementary regulatory responsibilities document.
