Learning Mentors Needed – September 2026 start (Ruislip)
Location: Ruislip and surrounding areas within the London Borough of Hillingdon
Hours: Flexible, Part-Time (School Hours)
Pay: Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)
Quantum Scholars is looking to recruit dedicated and compassionate Learning Mentors to support children and young people accessing Alternative Provision across Ruislip and the wider Hillingdon borough.
This rewarding role involves providing one-to-one support to pupils who are unable to attend mainstream education due to a variety of additional needs. Sessions are typically delivered in the learner’s home, on-site or at a community-based setting, during school hours, helping them build confidence, develop key life and learning skills, and successfully re-engage with education.
About The Role
As a Learning Mentor, you will provide personalised support to primary and secondary-aged pupils, tailoring your approach to meet each young person’s individual needs and circumstances.
Your Responsibilities May Include
- Providing engaging 1:1 mentoring and educational support in pupils’ homes
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils and their families
- Supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing, confidence, and motivation to learn
- Encouraging independence, resilience, and positive behaviours for learning
- Helping young people overcome barriers to education and re-engage with learning
- Supporting basic literacy, numeracy, and educational activities where appropriate
- Working collaboratively to monitor progress and provide feedback when required
- Adapting your mentoring style to suit each learner’s needs and abilities

Who You Will Be Supporting
You will work with children and young people with a range of additional needs, including:
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
- Anxiety and other mental health needs
- Medical needs
- Communication and interaction difficulties
- Behavioural challenges
- Other complex or additional learning needs
Many of the young people have faced challenges within mainstream education and benefit from a patient, flexible, and relationship-focused approach.
About You
We are looking for individuals who have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
- Previous experience as a Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant (TA), Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Youth Worker, Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Tutor, or in a similar role
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A calm, patient, and compassionate approach
- The ability to adapt support strategies to suit individual learners
- A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people achieve their potential
- Full Right to Work in the UK
