Learning Resource Centre Manager – Harris City Academy Crystal Palace

Harris City Academy Crystal Palace is a mixed Academy serving 1,300 students aged 11–18, including a sixth form of nearly 400 students. The Academy has achieved four consecutive Outstanding Ofsted judgments, with the 2025 inspection confirming excellence across all categories. £ Salary & Additional Benefits

  • Grade 5 (Outer London): £32,535–£34,488 per annum *(Actual starting salary: £27,354.43–£28,996.45 for 38 weeks x 37.5 hours)

### Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve managing, organising, and overseeing the Learning Resources Centre (LRC) to create an engaging, professional, and well-maintained learning environment. Core duties include:

Management & Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate the Learning Resource Centre, ensuring its secure, professional, and student-friendly status
  • Maintain and report on equipment faults (especially computers) to ensure functionality
  • Oversee budgets, record-keeping, and efficient resource management
  • Implement robust safeguarding measures for students using the centre

Educational Engagement

  • Foster extended reading by engaging with staff, students, and parents at consultation events and beyond curriculum time
  • Provide advisory support on learning resources to students, staff, and the wider community
  • Develop and deliver INSET training on:
    • Teaching and learning techniques
    • LRC material usage
    • Reading interventions (e.g., Accelerated Reading) for KS3 students
  • Curate intervention programmes to accelerate reading skills in targeted students, analysing data to report success rates

Collaboration & Outreach

  • Annual Book Week – Liaise with the English and Media teams and external providers to host events that promote literacy
  • Organise writer visits to raise the profile of reading and writing for pleasure
  • Collaborate with other Federation LRCs, English teams, and resource agencies
  • Extend academy hours access for community engagement

Curriculum & Study Skills

  • Integrate study and information skills with the broader curriculum
  • Manage the post-16 study centre and time-tabling for student access
  • Establish and maintain events for effective LRC use across the curriculum

Reading & Rewards Systems

  • Oversee the Accelerated Reader (or similar) scheme for KS3 students
  • Implement and manage rewards systems to maximise student engagement
  • Ensure alignment with the provider to maximize programme effectiveness

### Entry Requirements

We welcome applications from candidates with:

  • English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent
  • Degree or equivalent qualifications
  • Familiarity with library systems
  • Knowledge of Accelerated Reader or comparable reading schemes
  • Understanding of the UK National Curriculum (focus on English)
  • 3+ years’ experience in an inner-city school or educational establishment
  • Direct experience managing a library service or equivalent role
  • Practical experience with diverse reading schemes for student progression
