Learning Resources Centre Manager – Harris City Academy Crystal Palace
About Us
Harris City Academy Crystal Palace is a mixed Academy serving 1,300 students aged 11-18, with a large sixth form of nearly 400 students. The Academy has earned four consecutive Outstanding Ofsted judgments, most recently in 2025, excelling in every category. Summary
We are seeking a Learning Resources Centre Manager to lead, administer, and enhance our Learning Resources Centre (LRC), ensuring a professional, stimulating, and student-focused environment. The role involves overseeing resources, managing educational support schemes, and collaborating across departments to promote reading, research, and academic success.
Salary & Contract: £27,354.43–£28,996.45 per annum | 38 weeks, 37.5 hours per week
Main Areas of Responsibility
Your role will include:
Centre Management
- Oversee physical and operational management of the LRC, ensuring a professional environment.
- Maintain resources, equipment, and stock, reporting computer faults immediately.
- Time-table LRC, enterprise centre, and post-16 study centres.
Learner & Curriculum Support
- Develop and deliver INSET training on teaching & learning techniques and LRC resource utilisation.
- Liaise with English, media, and external providers to organise annual Book Week and writer meet-and-greets.
- Promote reading for pleasure, encouraging extended engagement beyond curriculum time.
- Develop study and information skills aligned with the curriculum.

Student Engagement & Development
- Support and challenge targeted students through intervention programmes to accelerate reading skills.
- Oversee Accelerated Reading (or equivalent) scheme for KS3 students, including:
- Designing and delivering INSET sessions on reading programmes.
- Analysing data and providing reports on student success.
- Managing rewards systems to boost engagement and motivation.
- Provide guidance and supervision to individuals and groups using the LRC.
Financial & Administrative Duties
- Manage LRC budgets and maintain robust resource records.
- Disseminate information about resources and access to staff and students.
- Monitor, evaluate, and review LRC usage and development.
- Organise after-hours, lunch-time, and break-time access for students.
Collaboration & External Links
- Liaise with library systems advisers, external publishers, and LRC managers across the Federation.
- Engage with the community, including offering out-of-academy hours access.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- GCSE in English & Maths (or equivalents).
- A relevant degree or professional qualification.
Valued:
- 3+ years’ experience in an inner-city school/educational establishment.
- Knowledge of library systems and reader engagement schemes (e.g., Accelerated Reader).
- Familiarity with the National Curriculum (Primary English focus).
- Experience managing a library or information centre.
