Learning Support Assistant
About The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant
Activate Learning is recruiting a caring and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join our specialist team based at our brand new Vocational and Lifeskills Hub for Post-16 learners with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) in Wokingham.
You will be supporting young people aged 16-25 with complex needs to re-engage in education through personalised, therapeutic, and vocational pathways.
Responsibilities

Support learners across:
- Engagement
- Employment (vocational/supported internships)
- Academic pathways

Work with teachers to:
- Raise attainment
- Promote independence, confidence, and social inclusion

Provide support in:
- Class
- Small groups
- 1:1 settings
-
Assist with:
- Personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP targets
- Adapting materials to support literacy, numeracy, and communication needs

Use trauma-informed approaches to support:
- Behaviour regulation
- Emotional regulation

Support learners in:
- Community and work-based settings

Monitor progress and maintain accurate records
Note: This is a part-time (4 days/week) fixed-term contract until August 2027, fulfilling term-time only professional obligations.

Requirements
To succeed as a Learning Support Assistant at Activate Learning, you’ll need:
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above*)
- Experience supporting:
- Young people (aged 16+) with:
- SEMH
- Autism
- Complex needs
- Young people (aged 16+) with:
- Strong:
- Communication
- Organisation
- IT skills
- Personality traits:
- Calm, flexible, and proactive
- Caring approach
- Ability to:
- Manage challenging behaviour
- Support learner independence
- Willingness to:
- Learn
