About the Role
Do you want to work in an environment focused on educating the whole child? Are you passionate about supporting and empowering some of the most inspiring and unique young people in Dorset? Do you share a commitment to making a real difference in the lives of children with additional needs?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to collaborate closely with class teachers while promoting pupil independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion. Your support will extend to the Pastoral Support team, Therapeutic Thinking Lead, and Therapy team in creating a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
We’d Love to Hear From You If You…
- Have a passion for supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, & Mental Health) needs and fostering understanding of neurodiversity (such as autism).
- Possess experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Youth Worker, particularly in supporting children with additional needs.
- Are currently working in a mainstream Secondary setting and eager to transition into Special Education. Your current expertise in creating supportive learning environments would be invaluable.

More About the Role
Work closely with teachers and staff to:
- Create a positive learning environment by supporting pupil engagement, both in-school and off-site.
- Provide therapeutic support for pupils’ mental well-being and emotional regulation.
- Assist in managing behaviour proactively through positive strategies.
- Help pupils develop coping strategies, social interaction, and communication skills.
- Collaborate in teaching emotional self-regulation under the guidance of class teachers.

Salary & Working Hours
- Salary Range: £25,989 - £26,824 FTE per annum (pro-rated for vocational hours).
- Term-time only equivalent: £22,878 - £23,613 per annum.
- Working Hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 08:30 – 16:00
- Wednesday: 08:30 – 16:30
- Friday: 08:30 – 15:30

This role will involve working with children or vulnerable adults. All successful candidates must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. Coombe House School is child-safety compliant and expects every employee and visitor to adopt a similar commitment.
