Learning Support Worker – Lunnasting Primary School, Vidlin, Shetland
The focus of this role is to support the care, welfare and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) while adhering to relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines.
About the Role
The Learning Support Worker may work with:
- A specific child or group of children (either in a dedicated department, mainstream class, or early learning and childcare (ELC) setting)
- Teachers or professionals, either as direct support or under their guidance
- An individualised education programme (IEP), often involving collaboration with professionals such as:
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Educational Psychologists
- Educational Outreach Service members

About the School
Lunnasting Primary School is a non-denominational school located in Vidlin, offering:
- Nursery to P7 education for children in Vidlin and neighbouring areas
- A small-scale structure: 1 nursery class + 2 composite primary classes
- 36 pupils in total, including 12 in nursery

Working Conditions & Remuneration
- Grade: G
- Pay: Excludes an automatic Distant Islands Allowance (£1,552.30/hour)
- Contract:
- Temporary, Part-Time (22.5 hours/week)
- 39 weeks/year + 45.24 weeks (pro-rated) paid holiday (took during school breaks)
- Fixed-term contract of approximately 12 months
- Requirements for Employment:
- Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme registration or update prior to offer
- Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration upon starting
- Sign Along/Makaton training (desirable; willingness to train will be considered)
