Who are Fair Ways and what do we stand for?
At Fair Ways we believe in making a difference through passionate care, support and education. Together we aim to build an institution that makes a difference to society and leaves a legacy greater than ourselves and our contributions. Our values sit at the heart of everything we do; we measure our wealth by the difference we make, rather than the profit we make. Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering Fostering, Education, Residential and Family services and cares for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year.
Where and when do we need you?
We are looking for a Learning Support Worker at our transition centre based in Wallington, Fareham. At Fort Wallington School we specialise in both, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties and autism (ASC). Our primary focus is for staff to support students in their transitional period either to full-time education or working towards a career, in collaboration with their Education Health Plan (EHP). Our students will have all been identified as having complex and additional needs and as such are better suited to 1:1 or 2:1 learning and will have an individualised curriculum based on their specific needs. Students are placed with Fair Ways when most other mainstream or specialist schools have been unable to meet their needs. As such, they are likely to have been out of education for a long period of time, having exhausted multiple placements.
In this role you will be involved exciting and rewarding things like:
- Providing support to students both onsite in lessons and offsite in exciting activities.
- Supporting teaching staff to deliver outstanding learning opportunities.
- Providing a good example and offering suitable support and direction through the demonstration of honest, understanding and proactive behaviour.
- Working as part of a supportive and experienced team showing resilience, initiative and adaptability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
