About The College

Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently constructing a multi-million, state-of-the-art new campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based here, where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.

The curriculum spans technical and vocational further/higher education, with:

  • Large apprenticeship provision
  • Dedicated centres for learners with SEN/SEND
  • Two main campuses (Ashington and Ponteland)
  • Delivery through regional satellite centres (as part of Education Partnership Northeast)

The new state-backed campus in Wansbeck Business Park (#nationaltrailblazer in design and operation) includes:

  • £52 million+ investment
  • £14 million recently invested in existing site upgrades

About The Role

The Programme Leader in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will:

  • Oversee engineering programme delivery, manage educator teams, and ensure alignment with industry standards.
  • Teach theoretical and practical lessons in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to build student knowledge and hands-on skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum leadership:
    • Collaborate with curriculum managers to develop career-focused learning plans, ensuring effective sequencing and resource alignment for ongoing industry relevance.
  • Student journey & performance:
    • Maintain data accuracy, driving continuous improvement and evaluating programme efficiency.
  • Programme development:
    • Lead development of cutting-edge new programmes based on industrial needs.
  • Student support & progression:
    • Guarantee recruitment, retention, achievement, and positive career outcomes.
  • Quality teaching:
    • Uphold assessment standards and ensure high‐quality learner experiences.
  • Student well-being:
    • Address concerns (attendance, wellbeing) with internal/externals (e.g. Better Education, Education Support).
  • Industry engagement:
    • Strengthen local/national industrial links to match educational delivery with industry demands.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics).
  • Level 2 qualifications in:
    • Maths
    • English

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Industry experience: Compulsory previous employment in an Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics sector setting.
  • Technical skills: Practical experience for electro/mechanical demonstration/assessment.
  • Technology: Confident use of VLEs, learning tech/digital tools.
  • Keys skills:
    • Effective written/verbal communication: Building relationships with students/colleagues/external stakeholders.
    • Passion for teaching + commitment to student potential.
