About The College

Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.

Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.

The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region

Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

Taking Teaching Further & Additional Incentives

If you’re making the move into further education teaching, you may be eligible for the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme a funded route to help industry professionals retrain as FE teachers.

In addition, for roles in high-need subjects or regions you may also benefit from the government’s targeted retention incentive (formerly “levelling-up premium”) payments, worth up to £6,000 for eligible teachers in their first five years and teaching certain shortage subjects.

Please note eligibility for both TTF and the Targeted Retention Incentive varies by role, subject area and provider, they do not apply to every vacancy.

About The Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated RACHP professional with excellent communication skills, a passion for teaching, and the ability to inspire learners. As a proactive and adaptable individual, you will bring a positive, solutions-focused approach and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, helping to shape a curriculum that reflects current industry practice and employer expectations.

About The Role

This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps (RACHP) while contributing to curriculum development and broader departmental initiatives. It is a great opportunity to shape learner experiences within a forward-thinking environment based in a new, purpose-built campus.

The position supports strong professional and career development, enabling you to enhance your teaching practice, expand technical expertise and take on leadership through involvement in projects. You will also benefit from access to modern teaching technologies, allowing you to integrate innovative tools and methods into your delivery.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging RACHP lessons to a range of learners.
  • Develop and update curriculum materials to meet industry standards.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in practical sessions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching strategies and resources.
  • Support learners in achieving their qualifications and career goals.

Qualification

  • A minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant industry subject.
  • English and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Minimum Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent, or commitment to complete within the first two years
  • Level 3 Assessor qualification, or commitment to complete

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven industry experience in RACHP.
  • Ability to deliver practical and theoretical lessons effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

  • Experience of working with and supporting apprentices and employers.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and end point assessment.
