Lecturer – Applied Science

Lecturer in Applied Science (Chemistry & Physics) – BTEC Level 2 & 3

About the Role

The School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Professional Studies at Kingston College is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive lecturer to deliver BTEC Applied Science Level 2 & 3 programmes, with a specialisation in Chemistry and Physics. Opportunities may also arise to contribute to other programmes within the school.

The principal aim of the role is to work collaboratively with the Head of Section & Team Leader and colleagues to ensure students achieve and exceed their target grades through a high-quality student experience and outstanding outcomes. This includes designing teaching schemes, scheduling assessments (coursework and externally set assessments), and monitoring student progress.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lecturing and tutoring on Chemistry and Physics modules at BTEC Level 2 & 3
  • Developing and delivering engaging, vocational-minded teaching materials
  • Contributing to programme quality, curriculum design and continuous improvement
  • Assessing learner progress and providing constructive feedback
  • Mentoring students and supporting their academic and personal development

The role offers flexibility with potential opportunities to expand into broader curricular areas within the school.


Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Teach and assess BTEC Applied Science (Level 2 & 3), with a focus on Chemistry and Physics
  • Work with course teams to refine teaching strategies and assessment methods
  • Maintain and enhance student engagement and performance outcomes
  • Develop training schemes for examiners, internal assessors and tutors
  • Ensure adherence to procedural, quality, and safeguarding standards

  • Collaborate with subject specialists, department leads, and safegaurding teams to maintain high teaching standards

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

  • A qualification in Applied Science, Chemistry, or Physics at degree level or an equivalent professional qualification
  • Teaching qualification recognised in further education (e.g., PGCE FE or equivalent, or willingness to work towards completing one)
  • Demonstrated experience teaching vocational programmes (BTEC or equivalent is preferred but not essential)
  • A track record of supporting student achievement and pastoral care

  • Enthusiastic, motivating, and proactive approach to education
  • Excellent teaching, communication, and organisation skills
  • Ability to empathise and support learners at different abilities
  • Receptiveness to innovation and technology in teaching methods
