Art and Design Lecturer
South Essex Colleges Group is seeking a talented and passionate Art and Design Lecturer to join our thriving Creative and Performing Arts Department, which has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality education and achieving excellent outcomes.
About the Role
Based at our Southend Campus, our department offers a diverse range of creative courses, including Fine Art, Illustration, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography, and Fashion. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach a variety of modules and subjects within the Art and Design field, ensuring that learners receive a comprehensive, inspiring, and engaging learning experience.
You will be responsible for:
- Designing and delivering lessons, workshops, and assessments that meet the needs of learners at different levels of study
- Ensuring learners develop both practical and theoretical skills
- Creating a stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning
Course Leadership Responsibilities
In addition to your teaching duties, you will have course leadership responsibilities for UAL Level 3 Diploma Fashion Business and Retail Year 1. This includes:
- Overseeing the planning, development, and assessment of learners’ work
- Managing course documentation
- Ensuring the course delivery aligns with the curriculum
- Tracking and monitoring attendance and progress
- Setting clear targets and providing timely feedback to help learners achieve their potential
A key part of this role will involve maintaining high levels of learner engagement and supporting their academic journey. You will be responsible for managing the learner journey from induction to progression, supporting learners in reaching their potential and successfully completing their course.

Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for candidates with:
- A relevant degree in Art, Design or a related field (or equivalent qualification)
- Significant teaching experience in a further education environment, ideally within Art and Design specialising in Fashion or Fashion Business and Retail
- A strong knowledge and passion for various Art and Design disciplines
- Experience teaching across a range of levels, from Level 1 to Level 4
- Industry experience in a fashion retail/fashion buying or design environment would be an advantage
Essential Skills:
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, with the ability to inspire and motivate learners
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience with digital platforms and learning management systems to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of UAL qualifications in creative subjects and industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Suite
Desirable:
- A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed) or a commitment to working towards one
- Experience in course leadership and managing teams of staff within a curriculum area
Qualification Requirements:
- For those who do not currently hold a teaching qualification, you will need a minimum level 3 qualification in your subject specialism plus Maths and English at level 2 before embarking on a Cert Ed level 5 or PGCE level 6.

Contract Details
- 18.5 hours per week working across Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
- Salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent on qualifications and experience
