Lecturer in Business – Merton College
About the Role
Here at Merton College, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Lecturer in Business to deliver outstanding teaching, learning, assessment, and tutorial support to students at levels 1–3.
The Lecturer will report to the Curriculum Manager and will be responsible for creating and implementing teaching strategies using varied, engaging learning materials. You will support learners by identifying career and employability opportunities, arranging and coordinating practical work, events, and assessment projects while contributing actively to the school’s community.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding quality teaching and learning across Business qualifications (levels 1–3)
- Design, implement, and evaluate engaging lesson plans using diverse teaching materials
- Identify opportunities for employment-focused study and career progression for learners
- Coordinate practical work, tutorials, workshops, and assessment projects
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support learner achievement
- Comply with external validation deadlines and assess work according to quality assurance standards
Key Requirements
- A degree or professional qualification in a Business-related subject (or equivalent relevant experience)
- Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards gaining one)
- Strong experience in Business education (levels 1–3) in a Further Education (FE) college or school context
- Successful track record supporting students from levels 1–3, with a good understanding of current BTEC Business curriculum
- Demonstrated industry experience in Business is highly desirable
- IT literate with excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Strong business acumen, facilitatory skills, and the confidence to engage with varied classroom groups
