Electrical Installation Teacher & Course Leader – South Hampshire College Group

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Electrical Installation courses, including theory, practical training, inspection & testing, and fault diagnosis. This role involves teaching NVQ Levels 1–3, supporting learner progression, and leading designated programmes as Course Leader.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging and effective teaching across Electrical Installation, including:
    • Practical skills
    • Inspection & testing
    • Fault diagnosis & design
  • Planning, assessing, and marking learner progress, including delivering pastoral support and tutorials
  • Acting as Course Leader, overseeing:
    • Delivery schedules
    • Assessment timelines
    • Quality assurance
    • Student progress and success
  • Ensuring learners achieve full occupational competence and prepare for End Point Assessments
  • Managing course administration, including:
    • Attendance records
    • Performance data
    • Awarding-body compliance
    • Work placements and employer liaison
  • Contributing to curriculum development, quality reviews, and continuous professional development
  • Participating in college events, such as open evenings, careers fairs, and school liaison

Responsibilities

  • Organise and deliver both theory and practical training at Levels 1–3
  • Assess and author lesson plans, schemes of work, and assessment strategies
  • Support learners through tutorials, pastoral care, and progress reviews
  • Ensure awareness of awarding-body standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain strong ties with employers, parents/carers, and external organisations
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD), appraisals, and teaching observations
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and excellence

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong teaching and delivery skills in Electrical Installation (Level 1–3)
  • Experience in practical workshops (installation, inspection & testing, fault-finding)
  • Skill in designing schemes of work and course documentation
  • Ability to deliver learner support through tutorials and pastoral advice
  • Knowledge of awarding-body requirements and assessment criteria
  • Experience in course administration (enrolment, registers, data reporting)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching teams and cross-college services
  • Experience with employer engagement and work placements

Desirable

  • ECS Gold Card / AM2 Certification
  • Level 5 Teaching Qualification (or commitment to achieving this)
  • Assessor & Moderator/IQA Award
  • Current industry qualifications (e.g., Level 5 Apprenticeship Standards)
  • Degree or professional qualifications in electrical engineering/related field
