- Salary: £30,249 - £46,722 pro rata, per annum (£15,124 - £23,361 full-time equivalent)
- Location: Macbeth Centre, Macbeth Street, London W6 9JJ
- Hours: 18 per week
- Contract: Permanent

About the Role

We are recruiting a Functional Skills (FS) English Lecturer (0.5 FTE, based at Adult Learning and Skills Service) to:
- Strengthen the borough’s Adult Learning and Skills Programme in English.
- Ensure learners gain the literacy skills essential for work, learning, and daily life.
- Propel progress against Ofsted, audit, and government compliance standards.
The Lecturer will: ✔ Deliver engaging, inclusive teaching aligned with Functional Skills English (Entry 1 to Level 2) and desirable GCSE delivery. ✔ Create high-calibre lesson plans, schemes of work, and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). ✔ Contribute to curriculum design and adaptive teaching for vulnerable learners, boosting confidence and independence. ✔ Engage with learner assessments, reviews, and feedback mechanisms. ✔ Work closely with the Skills for Life team to nurture communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Delivery
- Deliver structured, compliant Functional Skills English (Entry 1 to Level 2) using learner-centred approaches.
- Adapt lesson content to ensure accessibility for diverse, disadvantaged, and less-able learners.
- Provide differentiated instruction based on individual learner needs.
- Maintain adherence to Ofsted framework and quality assurance standards.
Curriculum & Assessment
- Develop and manage schemes of work, lesson plans, and ILPs aligned with awarding body guidelines.
- Conduct initial assessments, learner interviews, reviews, and progress tracking.
- Spearhead curriculum evaluation to align with local priorities and strengths.
Professional Engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues to shape effective adult learning environments.
- Stay updated with sector-wide teaching strategies and adult literacy trends.
- Support cross-team alignment for children, schools, and third-sector organisations.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Teaching Qualification: Minimum Level 4 teaching standard (some adult/middle-level experience preferred).
- Sector Experience: Extensive government-funded adult learning in Functional Skills English (ages 19+).
- Teaching Expertise:
- Demonstrated close partnership with learners.
- Proven adaptive teaching strategies for challenging audiences.
- Deep knowledge of awarding body compliance (e.g., AQA, EDEXCEL).
- Governance Awareness: Keeps up with Ofsted and adult learning policy.
Desirable Qualities
- GCSE in Adult Learning or Education.
- Experience in preparing learners for GCSE.
