Your Day-to-Day Impact
In this rewarding role, you will:
- Deliver engaging applied science courses as nominated by your manager and handle all associated course administration.
- Design schemes of work, lesson plans, and comprehensive teaching materials in advance.
- Mark and assess student work appropriately, ensuring fair and timely feedback.
- Serve as a personal tutor, guiding small groups of learners and offering tailored support, including one-on-one tutoring for those who require additional assistance.
- Track learner progress, set and review targets, and connect students with relevant college support services.
- Collaborate on quality standards, completing internal verification work to maintain high educational benchmarks.
- Prepare reports for external stakeholders (e.g., parents, employers, training agencies) and contribute to college events and meetings.
- Ensure attendance and achievement data is accurately tracked and monitored for meaningful intervention.
- Adhere rigorously to college policies, particularly safeguarding, health and safety, equality, and diversity.
- Embrace continuous professional development (CPD) through training and ongoing assessment.

- Deliver designated courses and manage all associated administrative tasks.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and supporting resources ahead of teaching sessions.
- Assess student work fairly, promptly, and objectively.
- Act as a personal tutor, providing structured individual and group support aligned with learner needs.
- Monitor learner progress, setting and reviewing targets collaboratively with students.
- Uphold quality standards and ensure compliance through internal verification processes.
- Direct learners to relevant college support services (e.g., mentoring, advocates).
- Generate reports for external stakeholders, representing the college's achievements and progression.
- Participate in meetings, working parties, and college-wide initiatives to foster engagement and collaboration.
- Maintain and report on learner attendance and achievement statistics securely and accurately.
- Follow college policies and procedures, prioritising safeguarding, equality, risk management, and healthy workplace practices.
Recruitment Criteria
As an established Lecturer, the following must be met:
- Minimum qualification of Level 3 subject specialist (or higher) in Applied Science to teach at the relevant level.
- Three years’ recent, relevant industry experience relevant to the subject specialism. -Successfully completed the probationary period.
Additional requirements:
- Hold an Assessor qualification for any relevant courses (e.g., NVQ courses).
- Demonstrated proficiency through Level 2 qualifications in English, mathematics, and IT (or equivalent competence test).
- Completion of Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
For the Experienced and Qualified Lecturer
Criteria include:
- Possession of a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent).
- Achievement of the Specialist Skills for Life Diploma (where applicable to workload).
- Acquisition of verification awards for assessment standards (where necessary).
- Meeting teaching hour thresholds:
- 30 hours Weekly (Full-Time)
- Minimum 6 hours Weekly (Part-Time)
- Two years’ teaching experience demonstrating adaptability across a range of programmes and levels.
