Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16–18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.

The Role
Please note that this is a fixed term contract until December 2027.
The role of a Lecturer in Childcare at Newham College is to provide outstanding teaching, learning, assessment, and support on a range of courses within your subject specialism, ranging from Levels 3.
The postholder will be supporting learners’ personal and professional development by creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Lecturers will contribute to curriculum design, quality improvement, and the wider college community, ensuring that teaching meets the standards set by awarding bodies and aligns with Newham College, local community, and sector priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and assessing learners across a range of Childcare courses.
- Supporting student retention, achievement, and progression.
- Acting as a personal tutor/course coordinator for designated groups.
- Developing high-quality teaching materials and schemes of work.
- Engaging with employers and external bodies to support placements and career opportunities.
- Participating in the continuous improvement of curriculum and quality assurance processes.
- Contributing to marketing, curriculum development, and course coordination activities.
- Embracing CPD (minimum of 30 hours annually) to stay current in your field.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- A degree or professional qualification in a Childcare-related field
- Teaching qualification (or working towards one)
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in the field of Childcare
- Experience teaching or training in the subject area
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- A learner-focused, inclusive approach
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and continuous improvement
This role is an exciting developmental opportunity for an appropriately qualified lecturer to gain further skills in this area.
Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults
In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education All employment offers are subject to employment checks. These include (some of which are dependent on the role and the individual): Enhanced DBS including Children’s Barred List check, DfE teaching/management Barred List check, online searches, overseas criminal record check, evidence of identity and Right to Work in the UK, satisfactory references, confirmation of medical fitness, evidence of relevant qualifications, and a check of previous employment history.

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that we advertise our salaries on a range to indicate the trajectory of progression that can be made. Appointments are usually made at the start of the salary range.
