The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated educator to lead communication skills education within MBBS undergraduate Medical Education. This position is critical in shaping safe, effective and compassionate doctors through structured assessment and student-centred, inclusive teaching methodologies.
By joining the Division of Medical Education, you will make a direct contribution to:
- Communicating clinical care (consultation skills, shared decision-making)
- Managing complex patient interactions with empathy and professionalism
- Facilitating interprofessional collaboration and safe handovers

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Assessment
- Plan, deliver and evaluate small-group and large-group teaching in communication skills, including simulated patient encounters and scenario-based learning
- Teach patient-centred consultations, professionalism, and sensitive conversation management with rigorous adherence to GMC standards
- Develop, review and update teaching materials in line with programme outcomes and current educational frameworks
- Oversee assessment activities (including CCAs, station writing, examiner training and marking) to ensure reliability and fairness
- Provide constructive, development-focused feedback to students—including those requiring supported remediation due to performance issues
Staff & Quality Development
- Recruitment, tuition, induction and holistic development of speakers, tutors, and simulated patients to sustain programme excellence
- Act as a personal tutor to students, offering pastoral and academic guidance
- Take ownership of ongoing improvement of the Communication Skills teaching approach through evaluation, QA processes, and scholarship
- Represent medical education in cross-departmental collaborations
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
Your application must demonstrate experience and capability in:
✔ A photon-existent or academic homer background with a focus on communication skills education within healthcare ✔ Demonstrated experience of teaching or assessing professionals in communication with patients or consultation skills ✔ A strong understanding of shared decision-making and patient-centred care ✔ Established values in education for equity, inclusion and diversity ✔ Commitment to innovation, research-based practice and continuous development ✔ Ability to work collaboratively and influence across interdisciplinary teams
