Lecturer in Computing
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Lecturer in Computing to join the Computing department at Sandwell College on a permanent part-time basis working 15 hours per week.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or industry professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of digital and technology professionals within the further education sector. You will play a key role in delivering engaging and high-quality teaching across Computing programmes, supporting learners to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours required for progression into higher education and employment within the digital industry.
Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the continued development and growth of the Computing provision, ensuring learners receive an outstanding educational experience that supports achievement, progression, and positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver inspiring and high-quality teaching across Computing programmes.
- Plan and teach engaging lessons aligned with curriculum and awarding body standards.
- Lead course development, ensuring programmes meet industry and learner needs.
- Support students academically and pastorally as a personal tutor.
- Create innovative learning resources using digital tools and multimedia.
- Work with employers, external agencies, and industry partners to boost employability.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous quality improvement.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- A degree (or equivalent) in Computing or a related field.
- A teaching qualification, such as a Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification.
- Proven experience delivering high-quality teaching in further education or vocational settings.
- Familiarity with BTEC Computing qualifications (including Next Gen specs) and curriculum development.
- Strong IT skills and experience using Information Learning Technology (ILT).
- Industry experience in Computing or digital sectors is highly desirable.
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding
✅ Accepted Qualifications
To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:
- DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- Certificate in Education
- PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
- ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
- DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
- DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).

- CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)

- TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
