London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS)

London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) is recognised across the world for our leading training and the renowned professionals we produce. Our training is rigorous and we’re not afraid to be radical. We don’t teach because it’s always been done a certain way. We push the boundaries and respond to industry and societal developments so our dancers are always relevant. That’s why we’re known for producing forward-thinking artists.

Job Overview

Unit 9: Deepening Dance Practices is a 40-credit unit within Year 2 / Level 5 of the BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance Performance programme at London Contemporary Dance School. The unit develops students' knowledge and skills as dance artists within the community dance sector, engaging them with critical understandings of participation, access, identity, community and co-creation. Students experience the practice of a range of artists working in community settings and undertake placement-based co-creation projects with community groups under the facilitation of a lead artist, supported by The Place staff.

The Unit Leader will oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Unit 9, coordinating the teaching team, managing community commission partnerships, and supporting students through teaching, tutorials, rehearsal facilitation, and assessment. The post holder will also be required to teach at least one of the following dance practices to any year group: Cunningham-based technique, Release-based technique, floorwork, or improvisation.

Placing the student at the centre of their work, the Unit Leader will:

  • Oversee the effective delivery and evaluation of Unit 9 within the BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance Performance course.
  • Undertake teaching, mentoring, and assessment within the fields of community dance and participatory practice.
  • Deliver technique teaching in at least one of: Cunningham-based, Release-based, floorwork, or improvisation, to any year group as required.
  • Enhance student learning through creative, reflective, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
  • Coordinate and liaise with community commission artists and external project partners.
  • Support student wellbeing and contribute to recruitment and curriculum development in line with School-wide priorities.
  • Deliver outreach activities and contribute to the admissions process, including national and international travel agreed in consultation with the line manager.
  • Uphold and promote the mission and values of The Place as a world-leading centre for contemporary dance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
