Lecturer in Early Years and Education

Job Title: Lecturer in Early Years and Education Type: Full-time & part-time roles available

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in Early Years and Education to join the Early Years and Education department at Sandwell College.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Early Years professional who is passionate about inspiring the next generation of childcare and education practitioners within higher education. You will have a major role in delivering engaging and high-quality teaching across Early Years programmes, supporting learners to develop practical skills, professional knowledge, and behaviours necessary for success in the industry.

Working closely with the Head of Curriculum and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the growth and development of the department, ensuring students receive an outstanding learning experience that prepares them for employment or further study.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Early Years and Education programmes.
  • Support learners studying on Early Years Educator pathways and related qualifications.
  • Act as a course tutor and provide effective pastoral and academic support to students.
  • Develop engaging learning materials using Information, Learning and Technology (ILT) and multimedia resources.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, development, and quality improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with course teams to ensure consistent excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Attend departmental meetings, parents’ evenings, open events and interview evenings as required.

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

You should hold:

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification in Early Years, Childcare, or a related field.
  • A teaching qualification.
  • Experience in Early Years, Nurseries, or Primary Education.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of Early Years vocational qualifications.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and administrative skills.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate, and support students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Confidence in digital technologies and ILT integration.

You must demonstrate a commitment to:

  • Safeguarding.
  • Equality, diversity, and outstanding student support.

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following qualifications:

✅ Accepted Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTTLS)
  • Certificate in Education (CertEd)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
  • Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGCE)
  • Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
  • Diploma in Teaching (DiT) – for vocational subjects only

If you hold a qualification not listed, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
