📌 About the Role
Hugh Baird College is seeking two committed Electrical Installation Lecturers to join the Building Services team. These roles are critical to supporting learners and curriculum for the new academic year.
We are searching for applicants with strong trade expertise and the ability to deliver high-quality teaching and assessment. While we welcome candidates transitioning from industry, at least one appointment requires college-level or apprenticeship teaching experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lecturer in Electrical Installation, primary duties include:
- Teaching and assessing Levels 1–3 apprentices, 16–18 learners, and adult students
- Delivering engaging technical lessons, theory, and practical electrical training
- Providing constructive feedback and learner support
- Maintaining course records, assessment records, and progress documentation
- Collaborating on curriculum development and quality improvement

This role supports a dedicated teaching team shaping future electricians, trainers, and technicians.
🔍 Who We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Recognised qualification equivalent to Level 3 (e.g. City & Guilds 2365) or above in Electrical Installation, or contracts involving it (NVQs, HNCs acceptable)
- Recent, hands-on industry experience (preferably in mixed domestic/commercial residential work)
- Intention to gain teaching qualifications (e.g., PGCE/FETAC, Cert. Ed, or PTLLS) if not already qualified
- Enthusiasm for training, mentoring, and adult/lifelong learners
Desirable
- Experience teaching Level 2/3 electrical courses in Further Education (FE), private training, or workplace settings
- Active Assessor, IQA, or Awarding Body knowledge
- Proven ability to support apprentices underAndy’s National Minimum/Apprenticeship Standards
- Awareness of onsite workplace practices and the NVQ assessment framework
Note: External teaching experience is not mandatory but increases suitability.

Hierarchal Pay and Incentives
- Starting range: £33,000
- Market-leading negotiation: Up to £45,000 + Department of Education (DOE) supplements
- Eligibility Bonus: Up to £6,000 Government Retention Incentive (as relevant)
