Make the Move From Industry — Teach the Next Generation of Electricians

Hugh Baird College, an Ofsted Outstanding provider, is looking for a skilled electrical professional to join our Building Services team as a Lecturer in Electrical Installation.

This role is perfect for someone ready to step off the tools, gain a better work–life balance, and use their trade expertise to inspire future electricians.

👷 Industry Experience Required — No Teaching Experience Needed

You do not need to have taught before

However, to be considered you must: hold a Level 3 (or higher) qualification in Electrical Installation or equivalent, and have recent, relevant industry experience. Without these mandatory trade qualifications, we cannot progress your application.

💷 Government Retention Bonus – Up to £6,000

Electrical Installation teaching is part of the Government’s priority “building and construction” subject area.

This means eligible FE teachers in their first five years of teaching can receive between £2,000 and £6,000, depending on teaching hours and provider criteria.

Applications for the 2025–26 academic year open 2 March – 31 May 2026. We will support eligible new staff with the application process.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
