The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University fosters a dynamic intersection of Humanities, Languages, Social Sciences, the Manchester School of Art, and the Manchester Fashion Institute, supported by cutting-edge digital and technical facilities.

About the Role

We are seeking a Lecturer in Fashion Contexts to join our Manchester Fashion Institute (MFI), one of the UK’s largest specialist fashion providers, recognised globally for its excellence in higher education and research. The institute bridges disciplines such as science, the arts, business, health, sociology, sport, and digital practices. Our mission is to cultivate an inclusive environment where diversity, equality, and innovation thrive, fueled by varied perspectives and cultural backgrounds.

This role is ideal for an academic who can:

  • Inspire the next generation of fashion talent.
  • Contribute expertise in the cultural, historical, and critical dimensions of fashion, including fashion theory, visual culture, identity, sustainability, and global perspectives.
  • Possess a background in fashion design (desirable).

Role Responsibilities

You will:

  • Deliver engaging teaching, lectures, seminars, and workshops across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
  • Foster critical thinking, contextual awareness, and academic writing skills.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment design, and delivery of high-quality teaching, linking theory to contemporary fashion practice and wider issues (social, political, and environmental).
  • Support interdisciplinary teaching and integration of current debates.
  • Apply theory to creative practice in modules (where applicable), providing pastoral support.
  • Align expertise effectively with fashion contexts, even if experience is beyond fashion.
  • Engage in research and knowledge exchange activities, including:
    • Producing high-quality research outputs
    • Supervising postgraduate research (PGR) students
    • Developing funding bids
  • Alternatively, demonstrate interest in advancing teaching delivery and student experience.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
