About This Role

We are seeking to appoint a permanent post as Lecturer in Mechatronics, to help develop and contribute to teaching, research, and knowledge exchange within the School of Engineering.

This role presents a fantastic opportunity to shape multidisciplinary mechatronics education. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the design, development and integration of intelligent mechatronic systems, combining mechanics, electronics, sensing, actuation, embedded systems, control, instrumentation and hardware–software integration. We would especially welcome applicants who can strengthen our capability in artificial intelligence and machine learning for mechatronics engineering, including intelligent automation, computer vision, data-driven control, industrial data analytics, digital twins and autonomous systems.

Candidates should also have strong hands-on experimental skills and be able to design, develop and deliver practical laboratory activities involving mechatronic hardware, embedded platforms, sensors, actuators, control systems and system integration. We are seeking candidates with relevant industry-recognised training or professional certifications in areas such as industrial automation, robotics, PLC programming, HMI systems, and engineering design. Certifications or certified training from manufacturers and providers such as ABB, KUKA, Beckhoff, Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Eplan, and SOLIDWORKS would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will contribute to our practice-based Mechatronics modules across areas such as Industry 4.0, Industrial Internet of Things, microcontrollers, applied AI, and integrated electro-mechanical systems, with applications in healthcare, manufacturing, robotics, transport, energy, and critical infrastructure.

Join us to inspire future engineers, drive innovative research, and collaborate with industry leaders to shape the future of engineering education.

About You

We require candidates with a diverse skill set and expertise in guiding students through core concepts in mechatronics engineering. We highly value candidates who have a background and knowledge that can help develop our aspiring student engineers.

As a School of Engineering, we create a safe and inclusive work environment for all, and we are passionate about building teams with diverse thought and lived experience. Our School has held the Athena Swan Bronze award since 2015, and we continue to seek this charter mark. We, in Engineering, have a global outlook through our International and National partnerships and the respective diversity of our staff and students.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
