Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences School of Health Sciences Ref: ATR/ATS194

Salary: £48,822 per annum, with annual increments up to £56,535 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arose for a Lecturer in Midwifery to join the School of Health Sciences to deliver lectures, seminars, and carry out teaching-related duties.

About the Role

  • Teaching is a central component of this position, requiring you to:
    • Plan, teach, and assess undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
    • Take responsibility for the delivery and assessment of specific modules
    • Organise modules and develop teaching and learning materials

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach designated midwifery modules
  • Design formative and summative assessments
  • Supervise and mentor students at all levels (undergraduate, postgraduate)
  • Engage in curriculum design and contribute to programme development
  • Ensure alignment with NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) standards and guidelines
  • Maintain professional development through academic research and practice

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current NMC registration as a registered midwife
  • MSc (or equivalent professional qualification) in a relevant subject area (preferably midwifery, healthcare education, or related discipline)
  • Experience in teaching and assessing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Familiarity with module design and educational materials development

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with examination processes and coursework assessment is highly desirable
  • Publications, research, or practice-based projects in midwifery or education would be advantageous

Terms & Conditions

  • Contract Start: 1 September 2026
  • Tenure: Indefinite-term full-time role (flexible working arrangements considered—see below)
  • Barrings: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Successful candidates will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a check of the Child and Vulnerable Adults Barred Lists. Applicants barred from regulated activity must not apply.
