- Compensation: £5,277 – £10,386 per year
About the Curriculum Area
The Performing Arts provision is part of the Creative Industries department at UWTSD, based at the Graig Campus. It delivers dynamic and diverse courses from Level 1 to Level 4, equipping learners with industry insights to progress into employment, higher education, or vocational dance/drama colleges.
Key features include:
- Courses at Level 2–4, with strong ties to industry specialists for guest lectures and workshops.
- Integration of creative skill development and Skills Academy sessions for all learners.
- Close collaborations with the Music Performance & Production and Creative Media departments.
- Ongoing growth aligned with government priorities, such as Work-Based Learning (WBL) and the impact of developments like S4C relocating to the campus.
All learners also engage in Literacy/Numeracy Skills pathways alongside a structured pastoral tutorial programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake teaching and assessment of voice/ singing for learners at Levels 2, 3, and 4 in Performing Arts.
- Lead singing skills sessions across the relevant levels.
- Conduct/lead the college choir and performance academy as needed.
- Collaborate with colleagues, managers, and directors to ensure a supportive and seamless learner experience.
- Promote Skills Development to prepare learners for HE or vocational colleges.
- Actively enhance recruitment via school engagement, projects, and internal/external marketing.
- Pursue inter-departmental and external collaborations to strengthen learner experiences.
- Organise and promote a diverse programme of activities, including masterclasses, workshops, and site visits.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential Criteria
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
- A formal teaching qualification (PGCE required within 2 years of joining if unavailable).
- GCSE English at Grade C/equivalent (or life experience preference).
- GCSE Mathematics at Grade C/equivalent (or life experience preference).
- Documented professional development in teaching.
- Relevant teaching experience (professional or voluntary, including guest lecturing).
- Estill Voice training/qualification recognised.
- Strong literalacy, numeracy, communication, and organisational skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and learners.
- Adaptability, punctuality, and flexibility in workload.

Desirable Criteria
- Proven record of student attainment excellence.
- Understanding of learner performance metrics.
- Experience with innovative teaching methods or project-based learning.
- Learner performance tracking and monitoring experience.
- Familiarity with pastoral care for young people.
- Digital literacy competency.
- Valid driver’s licence and car use (excluding taxis); willingness to drive college minibus.
- Commitment to extra-curricular activities.
Welsh Language Requirements
- Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking): Level 0/1 (desirable).
- Welsh Literacy (Writing/Speaking): Level 0/1 (desirable).
