Lecturer – Inclusive Learning (ASD and Behaviours of Concern)

Lecturer – SEND Specialist (Tutorial & Pastoral Care)

At Merton College, we seek a dedicated Lecturer to provide tutorial and pastoral care for learners with learning disabilities/difficulties, including oversight of work experience activities.


About the Role

You’ll fulfill the following key responsibilities:

  • Act as a Course Leader, taking responsibility for students' study programmes
  • Take an active role in all aspects of student assessment and accreditation
  • Participate in curriculum planning and product development where required
  • Deliver and embed Maths and English alongside Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to meet the College’s strategic objectives

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate must:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and a relevant professional qualification for SEND
  • Demonstrate extensive experience working with learners with SEND, understanding their specific learning needs
  • Show expertise in curriculum development tailored to changing demands in the Further Education sector
  • Have experience administering effective student support, including working with:
    • Accreditation frameworks (e.g., RARPA)
    • Assistive technologies in teaching and learning
    • External agencies and assessment/independent validation (IV) practices for specialist accreditation
  • Exhibit the ability to:
    • Manage challenging behaviour
    • Communicate at varying levels to accommodate diverse learning abilities
    • Collaborate effectively in a team
  • Be aware of current curriculum changes and their implications for SEND learners, including policy reforms
