Lecturer Stringed Instruments 17.5 HOURS PER WEEK PERMANENT
About the Role
The Faculty of Future Technologies and Design at Glasgow Clyde College is seeking an experienced and dynamic lecturer specialising in Stringed Instruments to deliver courses within our Sound & Stringed Instruments department.
Key Responsibilities
Our ideal candidate will:
- Teach and guide students from SCQF level 5 to level 8 across stringed instruments and related luthier skills, including:
- Preparation and maintenance of hand-tools
- Manufacturing instrument body & neck components
- Crafting inlays & sound-holes
- Instrument finishing
- Preparing electronics for pick-up equipped instruments
- Contribute to excellence in learning by:
- Developing high-quality materials for teaching, assessment, and support
- Enhancing learner engagement and outcomes
- Foster strong interpersonal and organisational skills, demonstrating:
- Independence, initiative, and adaptability
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse student groups
- Consistency under pressure while maintaining high standards

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- SCQF Level 8 qualification or equivalent professional expertise in stringed instruments/luthiery, or
- Substantial, direct experience as a professional luthier in the specialist field
- Ability to register with GTCS (General Teaching Council for Scotland) within 5 years of start date
- Hold a Teaching Qualification for Further Education (TQFE) or equivalent qualification

- Proven technical expertise in performance and/or repair/maintenance of stringed instruments
- Passion for mentoring and nurturing students in a vocational/technical context
- Flexible, collaborative, and resilient attitude

- Competitive salary of £41,833 - £50,359 per annum (pro-rata)
- Opportunity to work across all Glasgow Clyde Campuses, including Anniesland (base location)
