Our dedicated Lecturer (Teaching) team delivers subject-specific expertise in a dynamic, inclusive teaching environment—active, social, applied, and student-centred.
The Role
As a Lecturer (Teaching) in Geography and Environmental Management, you will be responsible for:
- Teaching undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programmes at HE levels 4-7.
- Supporting course design, development, and delivery, ensuring an inclusive and effective learning experience.
- Collaborating with academic colleagues in the College of Engineering, Environment and Science to integrate research, enterprise, and professional contexts into modules and courses.
- Curating, adapting, and creating teaching materials.
- Maintaining high standards of academic integrity across all teaching, learning, and assessment activities.
Key Duties:
- Teach, lead, and support:
- Deliver modules in Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Sustainability through lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials (HE levels 4-7).
- Develop and adapt teaching methods, materials, and assessments for clarity, inclusivity, and engagement.
- Provide active mentorship and feedback to students throughout academically demanding semesters (both formal and informal communication).

Professional development & subject expertise:
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including membership of relevant academic/industry bodies and attendance at subject-specific conferences (~4–6 days per year).
- Complete mandatory pedagogic CPD (~4–6 days per year) to maintain authority to teach.

Assessment & quality assurance:
- Design, moderate, and deliver module assessments for all student learning levels.
- Coordinate marking teams, mark assignments, provide timely feedback, and file submissions within deadlines.
- Uphold academic integrity, flagging potential concerns and guiding students appropriately.

Course & student management:
- Take ownsership of module leadership where required, curating and developing supplementary materials.
- Collaborate with School management and course directors to meet programme objectives.

Employability & student retention:
- Deliver personalised academic advice and professional guidance to enhance student progression, confidence, and employability.
- Embed real-world applications of course material to bridge the gap between theory and professional practice.
Qualifications Required
- Master’s degree in Geography, Environmental Management, or a related discipline, or an Honours Degree with appropriate professional qualification or membership of recognised bodies.
- Teaching qualification (or agreement to pursue one) to ensure teaching competence.
- Advantageous (desired):
- Doctoral qualification (PhD), demonstrating advanced subject expertise.
- Active membership of professional bodies.
