About the Role

Location: Stratford Campus Salary: £46,471–£51,606 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting) Hours: 21.6 hours per week (Part Time, Permanent) Post Reference: 1077-26-A Closing Date: Thursday 16 July 2026 Interview Date: Thursday 30 July 2026

You will join the School of Childhood and Social Care, a dynamic hub bringing together disciplines in psychology, education, social work, counselling and social care. This role is based within the Department of Social Work, Counselling and Social Care, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in counselling—many of which are professionally accredited and deeply embedded in clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning:
    • Deliver theoretical and practical counselling education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, primarily face-to-face at Stratford, with occasional online components.
    • Lead modules, teach across counselling-related subjects, and provide assessment and feedback.
    • Integrate theory, research, and professional clinical practice in alignment with BACP standards and other relevant accreditation bodies.
    • Supervise student research projects and participate in academic administration (e.g., admissions, recruitment).

  • Counselling Practice & Supervision:

    • Provide high-quality clinical supervision for students to bridge theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
    • Support students in developing reflective, ethical, and inclusive counselling practices.
  • Scholarly & Professional Engagement:

    • Engage in scholarly activities, research supervision, and publication to advance the counselling portfolio and Department’s research culture.
    • Contribute to curriculum development, professional training, and Summer Schools to enhance student employability.

About You

We seek a passionate, reflective practitioner and educator with:

Qualifications & Experience

  • A BACP-accredited postgraduate degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy or Counselling and Coaching, eligible/accredited by a recognised professional body (preferably BACP).
  • Qualified to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with competence in pedagogical strategies.
  • Significant experience in:
    • Counselling/integrative counselling and coaching and higher-education teaching/training (or equivalent professional roles).
    • Clinical supervision, module leadership, curriculum design, and working with diverse stakeholders. Highly desirable: Supervision, research supervision, and scholarly publications.

Personal Attributes

  • A student-centred mindset, commitment to inclusive and reflective practice.
  • Proficiency in communication, organisation, and ethics in a dynamic HE environment.
  • Willingness to engage with students flexibly (including evenings/Saturdays).
  • Experience supporting diverse student cohorts, particularly those from BAME, low-participation areas, and/or disabilities.
