Legal Adviser - Risk Capital (Reinsurance)

Are you a qualified lawyer with a strong background in financial services, insurance, or broader FCA-regulated environments? Do you thrive in fast-paced, high-impact roles where your legal expertise directly supports strategic business decisions?

We’re looking for a commercially minded Legal Adviser to join our dynamic UK-based legal team primarily supporting Aon’s Reinsurance businesses, including securities and strategic consulting. This role offers hybrid working, and we welcome candidates from across the UK who can work from our London office on a flexible mix of home and office days.

What the day will look like

  • Deliver clear, commercially focused legal advice to support Aon’s Reinsurance businesses.
  • Advise on client and reinsurer contracts and related legal matters, helping shape compliant and sustainable opportunities.
  • Identify and manage legal risks, escalating issues where needed to protect business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the UK, Poland, and India to ensure aligned legal, compliance and risk support.
  • Build trusted relationships across the business, balancing challenge with high service standards.
  • Contribute to projects on process improvement, risk mitigation, and legal policy development.
  • Support Aon’s pro bono and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, promoting community engagement and social impact.
  • Work cross-functionally to drive key initiatives and model Aon’s values.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister (UK/Ireland) or foreign-qualified lawyer.
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, or other FCA-regulated environments. Experience in Reinsurance is beneficial but not a prerequisite.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach to legal problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and develop productive connections across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Tenacity and a willingness to develop legal knowledge and skills across a broad range of demanding businesses.
  • Comfortable managing external counsel and navigating complex legal frameworks.
  • Committed to ethical practice and sound, risk-based decision-making.
  • Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience in large or matrixed organisations is welcomed.
