Legal

The Legal team shapes how the firm delivers legal matters, renowned for bold thinking about law and driving efficiency at scale. With deep expertise across multiple sectors, we handle:

  • Contract management
  • Document review
  • Managed legal services (including volume claims and remediation)
  • Due diligence

Collaborating with colleagues across the firm, we blend expertise in law, process design, and technology to deliver tailored legal solutions—orchestrating complex efforts through strategic legal project management for flawless, efficient delivery.

The Role

Legal Analyst – Disputes (Digital Legal Delivery) A dynamic position in the Digital Legal Delivery Disputes team, supporting highly experienced senior Disputes lawyers at the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Belfast office. This role offers a rare opportunity to work at the nexus of disputes law, data, and technology. Legal Analysts won’t just deliver thoroughly legal work—they’ll shape and enhance how disputes are handled through digital, data-driven, and AI-enabled approaches.

Location: Primarily based in Belfast but collaborating closely with a global Digital Legal Delivery team. Business trips and potential secondments to London may arise periodically.

Key Responsibilities

As a Legal Analyst, you’ll:

  • Contribute to fee-earning work under the supervision of senior Disputes lawyers, handling large-scale contentious matters. Responsibilities include:
    • Analysing and reporting on documentary evidence
    • Supporting efficient management of large-scale claims and investigations
    • High-quality, consistent analysis aligned with productivity and quality benchmarks
  • Stay current with advisory law developments relevant to the Digital Legal Delivery Disputes practice.
  • Ensure financial compliance while managing matters, including accurate time-recording.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification in law (2:1 + or equivalent), or postgraduate legal study requiring ≥3 A-Levels (ideally B grades +).
  • Strong ability to review, analyse, and organise documentary and evidentiary materials with meticulous attention to detail—get it right the first time.
  • Adaptability to master legal software and IT applications.
  • Innovative mindset, with an interest in applying AI (including generative AI) and legal technology to improve efficiency in service delivery.

Desirable

  • Internship or 6–12 months’ work experience in an office-based environment.
  • Fluency in a second language with the ability to translate legal documents into English. Western European languages provide an advantage; high-demand languages include Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.
