Summary
The six-year HD legal apprenticeship programme steadily builds towards qualification as a solicitor by studying initially the Level 3 Paralegal and then Level 7 Solicitor apprenticeships. This is the same time period as qualifying through the traditional route. This course is tailored towards College leavers.
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
The overall purpose of this role is to provide efficient support and assistance to the department in which the apprentice is working, whilst undertaking professional legal training.
Applicant must meet the eligibility and funding criteria for apprenticeships as set by the UK government at the point of enrolment.
After This Apprenticeship
You will achieve an LLB (Hons) in Law and Legal Practice and will sit the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) as part of your End Point Assessment, thereby offering a viable alternative route to qualification as a solicitor. It can unlock career paths in many specialisms by developing the relevant skills and knowledge required for your preferred future roles.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
