Legal Costs Negotiator - Manchester / Birmingham - Hybrid - up to £40,000
A leading national law firm with a Tier 1 Legal Costs team is seeking a Costs Negotiator to join its growing Legal Costs practice. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex, high-value matters within a highly respected national Costs department, offering strong progression, high-quality work, and a supportive team environment.
As a Costs Negotiator in either the Manchester or Birmingham team, you’ll handle challenging and varied costs work, benefit from excellent training, and play a key role in delivering value-driven outcomes for insurer and commercial clients.
The Role
- Managing your own caseload of costs matters from instruction to settlement
- Reviewing files and preparing Points of Dispute
- Negotiating costs outcomes directly with opponents
- Developing and implementing early costs strategies
- Advising internal teams and clients throughout the lifecycle of each matter
- Preparing for and supporting assessment hearings where required
- Using case management systems to progress files efficiently
- Working closely with senior fee-earners on complex and high-value matters

The Candidate
- Experience handling and negotiating costs in clinical negligence, personal injury, or other complex litigation
- Strong drafting skills, particularly Points of Dispute and Replies
- Confident communicator with strong negotiation ability
- Organised, proactive, and able to meet deadlines and billing targets
- Comfortable working independently within a collaborative team
- High attention to detail and confident decision-making
- Experience using case management systems
- Advocacy experience desirable but not essential
