Role description

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join the Legal & Compliance Department within Permasteelisa (UK) Limited. Reporting to the Head of Legal (Europe), the role will provide specialist legal support across construction projects in Europe within the Permasteelisa Group.

The role requires the ability to operate autonomously while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional and international environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide legal support on construction projects, including contract review, negotiation, and the provision of strategic legal advice throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support claims management and dispute-related matters across projects
  • Manage legal activities related to tendering, negotiation, administration, and settlement of contracts with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and third parties
  • Prepare construction contract risk assessments, identifying key risks and proposing mitigation strategies for Senior Leadership review
  • Maintain accurate records of contracts, warranties, guarantees, and related agreements
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and update of policies and procedures which focus on legal and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure compliance and consistency across projects and corporate activities
  • Coordinate with external law firms and advisors, supporting cost management and issuing appropriate instructions
  • Participate in project reviews and internal meetings, providing legal insight and guidance
  • Stay updated on legal developments, contribute to precedent documentation, and support internal knowledge sharing and training initiatives

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales or an equivalent common law jurisdiction with 2-5 PQE and valid practising certificate
  • Strong experience in construction law and familiarity with construction contracts (e.g., JCT or NEC), ideally from a subcontractor perspective
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to understand business and project needs
  • Strong communication skills with excellent command of English; additional languages (e.g., Italian, German) are a plus
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, managing multiple priorities under pressure
  • In-house experience (or strong aptitude for in-house roles) required
  • Experience in non-contentious construction work and project-related disputes is an advantage

Work Environment

  • Hybrid working model, with 3 days based in the London office and 2 days working remotely.
