Legal Counsel

Description
The Legal team at Silverstone is part of the wider Legal and Procurement team and is responsible for leading on the support and assistance on all legal matters arising from the day-to-day operation of the business. The majority of Legal matters and provision of legal advice is dealt with ‘in-house’ (commercial contracts, licensing, regulatory, some disputes and real estate matters); with external counsel engaged and managed to provide specialist support where sufficient expertise is not held within Silverstone.
The Legal team focuses on providing efficient, commercial support to Silverstone’s commercial and operational teams. Additionally, the Legal team provides input into the strategic decision-making taken by Silverstone management; assessing, and creatively exploring options for mitigating, risk.
JOB PURPOSE
- Provide top-quality Legal services to the Silverstone business.
- Lead on the resolution of the majority of day-to-day Legal matters and issues.
- Mitigate risk arising from existing and potential partnerships.
- Provide a strong link between the Legal team and the Silverstone business.
- Liaise with external counsel on complex legal matters and projects.
- Lead professional development of Legal team and train Legal team on latest legal changes.
- Train business on basic legal issues and Legal updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the provision of legal services on matters assigned by Legal and Procurement Director.
- Support Legal Team in delivery of legal advice on all legal matters.
- Input into strategic decision-marking on legal, commercial and operational matters.
- Collate information and evidence for legal disputes and regulatory matters; if experienced, lead the legal dispute on behalf of the Silverstone business.
- Liaise with the wider business to communicate status of legal support and build close relationships with each area.
- Effectively manage workload to ensure all team-specific, internal and external deadlines are met.
- Lead the development and delivery of Legal training to the wider business.
- Manage workload and that of other team members and reporting on matters and their status.
- Manage Legal Executive and invest in their development and training.
- Retain strong understanding of the Law and ensure sufficient awareness of legal developments (particularly to the extent they are relevant to the day-to-day operations of Silverstone).
- Oversee maintenance of Legal team repositories.
- Maintain strong relationships with external legal and professional services advisors.
- Attend legal and sports industry events to build network and gain deeper understanding of wider issues and challenges.
- Attendance at major events, providing support in any area required by the business (work involved may be outside of the provision of legal services).

- Support the management of workloads to ensure the efficient provision of quality legal advice.
- Engage closely with the wider business and ensure the Legal team is suitably involved in projects and activities.
- Create a positive, proactive culture and environment through enthusiasm and attitude.
- Promote (at all times) the professional image of Silverstone by ensuring high standards of both professionalism and personal presentation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified lawyer in England and Wales with a minimum of 1 years post-qualification experience.
- Exceptional understanding of the law and legal rules and regulations applicable to Silverstone.
- Experience working on Commercial legal matters.
- Experience working on Real Estate, Litigation and/or Intellectual Property (desirable).
- Experience working in an in-house legal team (desirable).
- Enthusiasm and desire to develop and grow professionally.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Effective time and workload management skills.
- History building cross-departmental relationships.
- Calm confidence and ability to effectively work under pressure and deliver to tight timeframes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate legal concepts and issues in a clear manner for non-legally trained colleagues.
- Understanding of the motorsport and events industries (desirable).
