Legal Counsel, Compliance (Mid-Level, TMT & E-commerce) - 6 months

About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day compliance support: Provide compliance advisory to business teams on TMT and e-commerce matters, including product launch reviews, platform governance strategy assessments, and interpretation of platform rules.
  • Legal risk identification and management: Conduct compliance assessments for new businesses, products, and features; identify potential legal risks; and deliver actionable solutions and risk-mitigation recommendations.
  • Regulatory research and monitoring: Independently research and analyse developments in overseas e-commerce regulation (e.g., platform liability, consumer protection, product/content governance, obligations of e-commerce platform operators), and provide interpretations and summaries to business teams.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or above in law from a reputable law school; LL.B / LL.M / J.D. preferred.

Bar qualification

  • Bar admission in one of the jurisdictions: PRC, England & Wales, US or other common law/civil law jurisdiction.

Experience

  • 4–8 years of relevant experience, with a background in reputable law firms, or in-house legal/compliance team of a tech or e-commerce company.

Professional expertise

  • Solid knowledge of e-commerce–related laws such as the E-commerce Law, Consumer Rights Protection Law, Advertising Law, and Anti-Unfair Competition Law, as well as major platform governance rules.
  • Solid knowledge of regulations such as GDPR, DSA, and DMA.
  • Solid knowledge of core TMT laws and regulations, including but not limited to the privacy, cybersecurity, telecommunication licensing, AI governance is preferred.

Languages requirements

  • English and Chinese

Chinese communication (core requirement)

  • Must be able to communicate fluently in Chinese (spoken) to collaborate effectively with China-based business, product, and legal stakeholders.

Additional Experience

  • Hands-on experience with leading e-commerce platforms, cross-border e-commerce, live-streaming e-commerce, or social commerce.
  • Experience in data compliance, platform governance, content compliance, or AI compliance projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to translate legal analysis into practical, business-executable recommendations.
